Reimagined: Doris White

Known for her unique fusion of semi-realistic watercolors and non-objective acrylic and oil paintings, Wisconsin painter Doris White (1924 – 1995) spent several years reimagining the urban landscape and experimenting with color and form. Trained at prestigious institutions like the Layton School of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago, White’s career blossomed after WWII. Her work evolved from fantastical cityscapes to abstractions that reflected her deepening connection to nature after she moved to a farmstead in Jackson in 1965.

White’s artistic prowess garnered international acclaim, with over 60 awards and exhibitions at renowned venues worldwide. Her legacy, recognized in the 1996 “Who’s Who in American Art”, continues to inspire, inviting viewers to reimagine the boundaries of painting. Exhibited artwork has been generously donated from Doris White’s best friend, Sally Musbach, and Yvonne “Sam” Bayley.

This exhibition is made possible by the generous donation of Cedarburg Art Museum members, Terry and Dirk Hausmann.
